coming soon in january 2010

Once upon a time (in January of 2009), Brian and I went to the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. We took a picture in front of the Capital Building and he said to me, "Someday I'll take you in there on an all-exclusive tour." Well, come January, he will! We are moving to D.C. from January to April so that he can intern for Senator Harry Reid.

Now, hold on.

Wherever your views on Senator Reid lie, just lie them over there for now, because my adorable husband deserves some high praise. Brian secured this internship all by himself through some serious net-working and intense persistence. He's been working on getting this internship since summer 2008, so it's been a long time coming. He will have fantastic experiences that will change him forever. (It sounds dramatic and a tad bit cheesy, but it's true.) I'm so super proud of him.

We decided to apply for housing through BYU's Washington Seminar. Students apply to Washington Seminar so that BYU can find an internship for them. But since Brian already secured his own, we are just going to use their housing at the darling Barlow Center. It's across from Trader Joe's, a few subway stations from the White House, and will be the perfect place for four months. We are so excited, we can hardly stand it.

We spend way too much time looking up DC restaurants and adventures. We already know, too, that we'll be spending plenty of time in NYC with Sami and Connecticut with JT and Liz. We both have this sneaky feeling that we're not gonna want to come home.

And to you, my adorable husband, thanks for taking us to D.C. I love you.

Hey my Dad knows Senator Reid and when we went to D.C. last time he arranged for his intern to take my family on this awesome tour of the capital! That's going to be Brian now, cool! Congrats!! D.C. is amazing (as you know)!

And plenty of time in NYC with ME too, remember me? And you'll have to come to Greenwich. And I will be visiting you in DC. I hope that's okay!

PS: I've seen the BYU housing, it is in the cutest neighborhood!

Oh, Ali, I can hardly stand it I'm so jealous! You will be living right in Georgetown and going to all of my favorite places. You must go to Georgetown Cupcake. The restaurant right next to Barlow Center is called Marshalls; great food. Walk down the street a bit and get a bowl of tomato soup at Le Madeline. Then maybe pop in the JCrew down the block then get a gelato at Dolcezza. You'll go crazy at Paper Source, and then just a little bit further, stop in the Old Stone House--the oldest home in D.C. Please spend lots of time at the National Gallery and walking up and down the mall (although it's going to be very cold when you are there). On President's day in February go to the National Portrait gallery for fun festivities, and in March drink in the cherry blossoms along the tidal basin. You will be in love with D.C. and her charms. I'm so happy for you!
